Car

From Kaiserslautern, the center of the West Palatinate, it is only around 45 minutes by car to Saarbrücken, Mannheim and Mainz, 60 minutes to Frankfurt Airport and 90 minutes to Karlsruhe thanks to the good motorway connection. Depending on your location in the region, the travel time is sometimes significantly reduced.

Train

Important destinations can be reached quickly from the regional transport hub in Kaiserslautern. Saarbrücken and Mannheim are within a commuting distance (approx. 40 minutes) and Frankfurt Airport is also well connected (90 minutes). Paris can be reached by ICE/TGV in just 150 minutes.

You can reach numerous European cities by taking the long-distance bus. From Kaiserslautern to Berlin, Munich, Brussels, Paris, Vienna or Luxembourg. From Zweibrücken & Pirmasens you can get to Bucharest via Munich, Vienna and Budapest. Neighboring destinations such as Mainz and Frankfurt are also easy to reach.

45 minutes from Kirchheimbolanden to Frankfurt Airport, 50 minutes from Lauterecken to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, 25 minutes from Zweibrücken to Saarbrücken Airport. The way to the next airport is never a long one in West Palatinate. Germany’s largest commercial airport, Frankfurt Airport, is only a one hour drive from the center of Kaiserslautern.

Public Transport

The West Palatinate is part of the Rhein-Neckar transport association (VRN). This connects us with the metropolitan region of the same name, with cities such as Speyer, Ludwigshafen, Mannheim and Heidelberg. Insider tip: With the VRN ticket you can even get to Würzburg and Wissembourg (France).
